A board member moved to approve item 3.2 “as presented.” During discussion, staff noted this year’s kindergarten roundup produced a record 117 signups and said actual enrollment could push the district toward its identified capacity thresholds; staff said they would return with staffing recommendations if enrollment growth required an additional kindergarten teacher.
District staff explained how the nonresident‑student process works: after the May 1 posting and any lotteries, if spaces remain staff may accept out‑of‑district applications up to the district’s capacity and in accordance with policy. Staff said the district uses a 2 percent growth‑rate assumption for projection and that a more detailed demographic study could be scheduled later in the budget calendar.
The motion passed on a roll call in which board members present recorded unanimous support.
The board’s approval directs staff to publish the updated table of nonresident capacities and to follow the district’s lottery and post‑lottery acceptance procedures if additional spaces remain. Staff also said they will track attrition and provide data on the retention of out‑of‑district students at a later date if requested by the board.
