Board hears recommendation to adopt Apogee communications platform; district says change could be cost-neutral

Edwardsburg Public Schools presented a recommendation from the strategic-plan communications subcommittee to adopt Apogee as the district website and communications platform, including a district-specific mobile app and integrated messaging.

Superintendent Dr. Soucek and strategic-plan lead Tracy Spalding summarized the subcommittee's work. They said families and staff wanted a single, user-friendly place for district notices, text messaging, calendar updates and teacher–family communication. The district reviewed options and narrowed the field to two platforms before recommending Apogee for its range of features and customizability.

District staff said the Apogee product will allow the district to build a branded app and push content simultaneously to social media, the website and text messages. They said Apogee integrates with PowerSchool, Google Classroom and athletic scheduling tools; it also supports two-way messaging within selected groups (for example staff groups) and teacher office-hour postings.

Administrators said switching vendors could be largely cost-neutral by changing the district's PowerSchool hosting arrangement to offset Apogee licensing fees. A board member asked about contract length and exit options; the district replied that the proposal includes a one-year term without a broad early-termination clause.

No formal board vote was required or taken; presenters characterized the recommendation as within the superintendent's contractual threshold and as the product of the strategic-planning process.
