The Foster Town Council on April 24 voted to accept the design-development permit-set drawings for a proposed new police station as submitted by New England Construction. Council members said these are design prints to which a budget is now being applied; the final construction price was not yet available and will be presented at the council’s May 8 meeting.
Council discussion noted the permit set would allow the contractor and town staff to begin preparing for permit applications and that subsequent construction drawings could reflect further changes. Several council members and at least one member of the public asked about prior zoning steps and the recording of a zoning change for the municipal designation of the property; staff said minutes from a prior planning board meeting approving the zoning change had been located and that the change still needed the formal recording in the town deed records.
A motion to accept the permit-set design development drawings passed by voice vote. The council directed staff to ensure documentation of the zoning change and to obtain the final construction budget for review at the May meeting before construction authorization.
