Applicant withdraws variance request for 30 Glover Ave after board raises density and parking concerns

An application to vertically expand the single‑family house at 30 Glover Ave and convert it to a two‑family dwelling was withdrawn at the April 22 Quincy City Zoning Board meeting after board members raised concerns about density and rear‑yard paving for parking.

Applicant Chila Khani presented the request and described a family need: she said her mother would like to age in place and that the proposed two‑unit setup would allow an elder family member and an aunt to live in one unit while she, her husband and child lived in the other. Khani told the board she and her family have been Quincy residents for about 30 years and described plans to pave roughly half the backyard to create up to four parking spaces and to install two dry wells to manage runoff, as requested by the city.

Board members repeatedly cited the lot’s tight dimensions and neighborhood character as reasons for concern. One board member said the site is "a little much for that ... pretty dense up there now," and several members objected to further backyard paving and the prospect of up to six bedrooms on the lot. A board member advised withdrawal, saying the application "don't look like it's gonna pass." The applicant chose to withdraw without prejudice; the clerk read and the board approved the motion to allow the withdrawal.

A board member noted that, if the applicant withdraws, she could redesign the project and return later; the record includes a remark that an applicant would likely have to wait two years to refile the same application. The withdrawal was recorded as a formal motion approved by the board; no vote on the underlying variances occurred.
