The City Council of the City of Anna voted unanimously April 22 to approve a resolution to purchase approximately 44.73 acres from Anne Warren Hazlett for $8,000,000 for future municipal facilities, including a site for a potential new police station.
Assistant City Manager Greg Peters told council the property on State Highway 5 south of town provides size and location appropriate for the planned police station. Peters said the purchase will enable Park Hill, the consultant hired for a feasibility and facility study approved at a prior meeting, to maximize the planning and design work for a new police facility. Peters said input from the police leadership was incorporated into site selection and that the property met operational needs identified in that process.
Council members expressed support, saying neighbors had called to express enthusiasm for a municipal presence at that location and praising the seller for what council described as a fair price. Councilman Totten moved approval; Councilman Carver seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
No additional purchase contract terms or closing dates were read into the transcript; staff indicated further contract and study work will follow the council vote.
