Boca Raton CRA reports Meisner Park upgrades, downtown website refresh; resident urges more tennis outreach

Ruby Riley, downtown manager for the Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency, told the board on April 21 that crews have installed paver pads for ADA access at Meisner Park, started phased fountain restoration and are preparing electrical conduit for future security cameras.
Riley said crews completed paver pads around café tables and umbrellas to create an ADA clear path, began restoration on the north fountains and will move to the south fountains before pausing for the city’s centennial and returning to renovate the main center fountain. She said the agency hopes to complete the fountain work by June and is awaiting one additional water meter needed to install drinking fountains with dog bowls in the park’s south end.
The update included routine maintenance: benches and trash receptacles have been repainted black, re-sodding is underway (south end complete), and recycling bins were placed throughout the park. Riley said the downtown website, DowntownBoca.org, received a visual refresh and will gain an interactive map soon. She also reported the team added one trash receptacle to the metered lot east of the post office and is monitoring needs for additional bins.
In public comment, Judy Morrow, a downtown resident, asked whether the city had received updated drawings from consultant Terra Frisbie and whether plans to replace tennis courts downtown would restore more courts than the four shown on draft plans. Morrow also urged more marketing for the Boca Raton Tennis Center and suggested signage and promotions to boost participation.
Vice Chair Thompson and other commissioners discussed trash-can placement during Riley’s presentation. Thompson cited an anecdote about Walt Disney’s observation that trash receptacles placed at frequent intervals change user behavior; another commissioner cited different cultural practices in Japan where public trash cans are fewer. Riley told the board she is coordinating maintenance of the recycling receptacles with Brookfield and that, to her knowledge, the bins are being serviced regularly.
Board members and staff also noted conduit work for fiber and electrical lines in Meisner Park, with the goal of accommodating future security cameras and other downtown infrastructure. Chair Wigtor and Executive Director Ben Brown said staff will present a broader recreation master-plan update and the consultant Terra Frisbie’s interim government campus plan in coming weeks.
The board received the appearance update without further action.
