The Flagstaff Heritage Preservation Commission approved an extension of a $20,000 Historic Signs and Facades grant for the 614 W. Santa Fe Avenue project on April 16, moving $15,000 to be completed by the end of the current fiscal year and allowing a six‑month extension for the remaining $5,000.
City staff said the property owner requested the split extension after reporting progress on receipts and construction scheduling. Staff told the commission the owner expects to submit documentation showing $30,000 in receipts by mid‑June and asked for contingency on the remaining work.
Commissioner Horn moved to approve the split extension; the motion passed after a second. Commissioners asked staff to add clearer wording to future grant materials to emphasize that grants are taxable and that applicants must submit a W‑9; staff said they will update the application and guidance language for the May agenda.
The action was approved at the meeting by voice vote; staff recorded that, after the extension, $15,000 of the grant balance would be expended this fiscal year and $5,000 would carry into the next period if necessary.
