Mayor proclaims National Police Week; Temple police honored and fallen officers remembered

Temple Police Department representatives thanked the council for the recognition. The police chief noted four Temple officers who have died in the line of duty and provided dates and causes of death: Deputy City Marshal Robert E. Hawkes (died by gunfire, 1889), Lieutenant Walter A. Staley (gunfire, June 26, 1962), Police Officer James O'Brien (motorcycle crash, Nov. 21, 2003), and Police Officer David Camden (motorcycle crash, Sept. 14, 2007). The chief said department representatives often escort families of the fallen at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial candlelight vigil.
Council members expressed appreciation for the department’s service and sacrifice. No formal action beyond the ceremonial proclamation was taken.
