The Beaver County solicitor's office told commissioners at a work session April 23 that 169 tax assessment appeals were filed this year and about 80 parcels remain in the court process. The office also previewed 27 resolutions on the agenda for the board’s next meeting.
"This year, there was a 169 appeals filed. We are about halfway through. There's about 80 parcels, that are still left as far as appeals in the court process," said a solicitor's office representative. The solicitor's office representative said 27 resolutions are expected on the agenda the following day.
The solicitor outlined several items among the resolutions. The list included Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awards, many targeting human services; sidewalk and paving work described for a project identified as related to Nicollina; a paving project in Ambridge; and a multiyear agreement with Bickerstaff Landscaping to manage weeds at Bridgewater Landing along the river. The office also described two human-resources policy updates (assets-control policy and a policy on driving county-owned vehicles).
Other items previewed were an expected agreement with the Beaver County YMCA for staffing, a proposed lease with Saint Barnabas for county storage space priced at $9,000 per month for three years, the planned purchase of a new sheriff's vehicle, and a contractor hire for asbestos removal at the Darlington Bricks project. The asbestos cleanup was described as part of an ongoing effort funded through an ETA grant; county staff in the meeting noted a contractor is needed to perform the cleanup.
No formal votes were taken on those items during the work session; the solicitor's remarks were a briefing about items scheduled for the next formal meeting. After the briefing, the commission moved to an executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
The work session did not set final approvals for the items previewed; each resolution will be considered at the board’s next public meeting where votes may occur.
