The Gunnison Planning and Zoning Commission opened a public hearing April 23 on the "Our Valley" vision plan and moved to recommend that the city council consider incorporating the document as an exhibit to the city’s general plan.
Commissioners said they attended community meetings that produced the vision plan and expressed support for its conclusions. One commissioner said, “I attended most of those meetings that they had, and I think they did a great job. I was very impressed with the whole process, and I liked the conclusions that they drew and finalized.”
Planning staff advised the commission that the vision plan would be adopted as an exhibit to the general plan if council concurs and reminded commissioners that state statute prescribes specific elements that must be included in a municipal general plan. The commission discussed using the findings and considerations already outlined in the staff memo as the basis for a recommendation to council and then closed the public hearing. Commissioners asked staff to prepare a recommended motion that the planning commission had considered the plan and that relevant considerations in city code were addressed.
The commission’s action was procedural: it does not by itself amend the general plan. Instead the commission forwarded its recommendation for city council review, with staff noting that final incorporation would be done as an exhibit and that state law governs required plan elements.
