Souderton Area SD board recognizes girls and boys wrestling teams, student newspaper and SAVE greenhouse

The Souderton Area School District Board of School Directors on April 24 recognized multiple student groups, including the girls and boys wrestling teams, the student newspaper The Arrowhead and the SAVE greenhouse program.
The recognitions came near the start of the board's monthly action meeting. "Our girls wrestling team did an unbelievable job this season," a speaker said, listing tournament wins and the team’s eighth-place finish among 135 teams in the state. The speaker credited coach Chris Atkinson for promoting girls wrestling across the region and noted that Souderton was an early adopter in Suburban One Conference.
The board also recognized the boys team after the athletic department highlighted a Suburban One League championship — the program’s first in more than 30 years — and two state qualifiers. Coach Billy McGinley told the board, "First time winning a league title in 30 years is truly an accomplishment and we're really proud of this team." Several student athletes were introduced by weight class and invited to the front of the room.
The board next recognized The Arrowhead staff. Stacy Aronneau, the paper’s advisor, was invited to present highlights, which included regional trips and awards. An excerpt from judges’ comments was read aloud noting the paper’s coverage and First Amendment emphasis. Student editors introduced themselves and, when applicable, shared college plans.
The SAVE program and its greenhouse were also acknowledged. Kim Wilson, identified as a SAVE advisor and teacher, introduced senior student Kate Hay and discussed the greenhouse’s role in student learning and community projects. A student officer described SAVE as "the greatest opportunity to have an outlet to give back to the community."
Student representatives provided a brief report on recent and upcoming school events. They noted the academic decathlon parade, a Young Women Rising event, a job fair, an eighth-grade orientation and upcoming activities including junior prom and AP/Keystone exams.
The recognitions drew brief board motions to approve each acknowledgement; each motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board did not take separate formal action beyond the recognitions.
Looking ahead, the superintendent mentioned several spring events — including a greenhouse flower sale scheduled for May 10 and a limited soft opening of the new baseball and softball fields the following day — and reminded the public of upcoming concerts and testing days.
