The Kenosha Fire Prevention Bureau presented a report April 28 on the city’s use of a compliance engine to track maintenance, repairs and inspection dates for fire-suppression systems and businesses. Chief Jake Waltzman, fire prevention bureau chief, explained the system has been in use since 2022 following council approval and that contractors enter reports when they inspect or service systems.
Waltzman said the number of recorded reports rose over time as users entered historical and ongoing inspections; he expected the annual totals to level off after the initial catch-up period and to increase modestly thereafter because of development. Committee members asked how often they should receive the compliance-engine report; one member suggested semiannual updates, while another said annual reports might be sufficient. The bureau asked the committee to set a cadence.
A committee member moved to receive and file the report; the motion was seconded and the committee approved the action by voice vote, with the chair recording an affirmative vote. No compliance statistics beyond general trending were presented in committee, although the bureau cited 2024 as a reference year for trend expectations.
Committee members did not direct additional immediate action; staff and the bureau will coordinate on the preferred reporting frequency for future meetings.
