Staff reports: Nature Center selection, Leisure Lagoon timeline, public art roundtable and early engagement on Fire Station No. 4

Staff gave several operational updates to the Art in Public Places board:
Nature Center: Staff said artists’ pieces for the Nature Center have been selected and a representative will staff a table at the local PEAK (public event). The board will launch a public survey at the event and keep it open roughly two weeks; staff expects to close the survey around May 11 and then publish results.
Leisure Lagoon panels: Staff reported the artist, Amanda, is completing the final two panels. Procurement is preparing a contract amendment to extend the installation deadline to accommodate the Leisure Lagoon’s planned three-week closure in August; staff said the contract contained an extension provision and installation during the scheduled maintenance closure was agreed to by the artist.
Public Art Roundtable: Staff summarized a virtual state-wide public-art mini-conference that led to an informal New Mexico Public Art Roundtable. Representatives from Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Las Cruces, Gallup and Santa Fe participated. The roundtable will use an “echo” model to convene discussions on shared topics and resources and staff invited board members to participate.
Fire Station No. 4: Staff said project managers for the new Fire Station No. 4 have engaged APP early in the design process and raised several design options, including integrating artwork into architectural elements or site walls. Staff said the project will likely include a capital contribution to the APP fund and will return to the board with design options for feedback.
Inventory and plaques: Staff reported follow-up inventory work locating several works (e.g., sculptures identified at the Nature Center), noted some missing plaques and said Parks will install some completed plaques as part of near-term ADA-related landscaping projects. The board directed staff to continue tracking inventory, plaques and maintenance needs.
