U.N. officials briefed that Bob Ray, president of the Economic and Social Council, and Naveed Hanif, assistant secretary-general in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, will brief next week on the ECOSOC forum on financing for development, which is the last chance for inputs from multiple stakeholders into the draft outcome for the fourth international conference on financing for development (FFD4).
The briefing said FFD4 will take place in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3 and aims to galvanize commitments and cooperation among countries to close an estimated $4,000,000,000,000 annual funding gap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Why it matters: The forum is positioned as a key final opportunity for stakeholders to shape the FFD4 outcome document. U.N. staff told reporters the forum will be held in the Trusteeship Council and broadcast by UN Web TV, and that DESA can be contacted for more information.
Details: The briefing previewed other related meetings, including a preparatory committee for the 2026 review conference of the parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), scheduled April 28–May 4, and scheduled briefings from other senior U.N. officials during the week.
Next steps: The ECOSOC forum will convene and collect final inputs into the FFD4 draft outcome document ahead of the Seville conference.
