Visit South Padre Island staff reported a busy spring and summer calendar, including sold-out events, a website relaunch scheduled for Monday, April 28, and a planned billboard presence in Monterrey tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lori Morris, senior operations and events manager for Visit South Padre Island, told the board the SPI Triathlon on March 29 had 131 participants and that several spring events had strong turnout. Morris said the Run the Jailbreak event sold out both days and drew thousands, and she reported the Shellsport owner tournament scheduled for May over Mother's Day weekend is expected to bring more than 2,000 attendees.
Kelly Carrere, director of sales, reported the group-sales team logged 21 leads in March and said contracted and potential room-night figures were included in staff materials. The transcript reports contracted room nights as "$19.42," which appears to be a transcription artifact; staff did not provide a corrected figure on the record.
Marisa Cervantes, website and data specialist, said the new Visit South Padre Island site was scheduled to launch April 28 and that the team is updating photography and video assets with vendor Greenhouse.
Denise Villalobos, social media and international affairs specialist, reported a 21% increase in impressions across Facebook and Instagram in March, about 3,000 new followers in one month, and a 2.2% follower increase on TikTok. Staff said they plan to expand use of in-house drone footage, refresh Instagram highlights and optimize captions and geotags for better SEO.
On international marketing, staff described a new static billboard in Monterrey placed near malls and a high-traffic school corridor with an estimated reach of about 4 million impressions per month for three months. Staff also outlined a dedicated billboard placement in Monterrey for June 2026 to coincide with World Cup matches; staff noted the stadium there holds about 53,000 and that several matches are scheduled in June 2026.
Staff acknowledged widespread use of AI by vendors such as Simpleview to assist SEO and back-end content tasks and said the organization is monitoring those tools to improve competitiveness in search results.
The presentation included operational recognition: staff members were thanked for supporting busy spring-break periods and recent large events. Board members were told the team will provide further campaign and hot-tax metrics in a future meeting.
