County staff presented the recommendation after announcing that Director Debbie Nelson is leaving. Staff told the commission Morrissette would work with Nelson during the transition, lead the county through the budget process, oversee the Brady Martz audit and attend commission meetings while a permanent replacement is sought. The staff presentation said Morrissette has about 19 years of county service.
A commissioner moved the appointment and another commissioner seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice vote. Commissioners said the interim assignment is intended to ensure continuity as the county proceeds through the budget cycle and the scheduled audit.
The interim appointment is temporary; staff said Morrissette made clear she is not seeking the position permanently and would serve only for the transition period. The commission did not set a timeline for hiring a permanent director during the meeting.
