Nevada Senate refers dozens of Assembly bills to committees, suspends rules to fast-track two measures

On April 21, 2025 the Nevada Senate used voice votes to refer a large set of Assembly bills and four Assembly joint resolutions to standing committees, suspended standing rule 40 to send two bills immediately to committee, and recorded an alternate appointment to the Senate Finance Committee.
The Nevada Senate on April 21, 2025 voted by voice to refer scores of Assembly bills and four Assembly joint resolutions to standing committees, suspended Senate standing rule No. 40 twice to refer two bills immediately to committee, and noted an alternate appointment to the Senate Committee on Finance.
The action began after Assistant Chief Clerk of the Assembly Jason Hathaway read a set of messages from the Assembly listing bills and joint resolutions the Assembly had passed and transmitted to the Senate. Senator Lang moved routine referrals and the motions carried on voice votes.
Pursuant to Senate standing rule No. 41, the chamber recorded that Senator Scheibel was appointed as an alternate on the Committee on Finance with full committee privileges until further notice. The announcement was made on the floor by Senator Lang.
Senate business on referrals included: Assembly Joint Resolutions 6, 9, 10 and 13, which were referred to the Senate Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections; and the introduction and first reading of Senate Bill 459, introduced by Senator Cannizzaro, described on first reading as revising provisions relating to gaming salons and referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary.
Later in the session Senator Lang moved that the Assembly bills listed on the Senate agenda — described on the record as Assembly bills numbers 20 through 547 — be referred to the committees indicated on the printed agenda. The motion carried by voice vote. On the floor the motion specifically excluded Assembly Bill number 2 17 and Assembly Bill number 4 29 from that bulk referral.
The Senate then voted to suspend standing rule No. 40 and refer Assembly Bill number 2 17 to the Committee on Judiciary. The chamber again suspended standing rule No. 40 and referred Assembly Bill number 4 25 to the Committee on Natural Resources. Each of those suspensions and referrals passed by voice vote as recorded on the floor.
The Senate recessed to a joint session with the Assembly during the day and later adjourned, returning at a date and time set by the Senate: the body stood adjourned until 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
