Board approves driveway installation and parking-waiver for Hyattsville property

The Prince George's County Board of Appeals on April 23 granted Kimberly Edwards a variance for 709 square feet of net lot area and approved a waiver of the parking-area-location requirement so she can install a 20-by-14 driveway at 5605 Quincy Street in Hyattsville.

Edwards told the board that no driveway currently exists at the property and that lot configuration and narrowness limit how a driveway could be oriented without relief. “My property is significantly a lot narrower than the other properties in the neighborhood,” Edwards said in explaining why she could not comply with the standard driveway orientation requirements.

Board members examined aerial photos and noted that the petitioner’s lot placement and fronting made compliance difficult. Chair Boulware and other members found the petitioner met the criteria for relief and observed no public opposition in the record.

Vice Chair Johnston moved to grant the applicant's request; Member Stanton seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous: Chair Boulware (aye), Vice Chair Johnston (aye), Member Stanton (aye). Motion carried 3-0.
