Council adopts major thoroughfare plan changes and advances subdivision rules to require greater street connectivity

The City of Cedar Falls approved updates to its Major Thoroughfare Plan and advanced a package of subdivision code changes intended to improve street connectivity and circulation in new neighborhoods.

The council passed the Chapter 19 amendments (Major Thoroughfare Plan) on a unanimous roll-call vote and gave first consideration to Chapter 20 subdivision ordinance changes that set standards for block length, collector spacing and right-of-way width. Staff and commission materials say the amendments replace an outdated 1980s map, align the city with Federal Highway Administration and Iowa statewide design recommendations, and provide clearer rules for developers and staff review.
