The calendar committee presented its recommended option and an alternative that listed the break as “Christmas/winter.” After public comment and board discussion — during which some trustees said the committee had solicited community input and others said the district had not adequately engaged all families in advance — board member Lacey moved to remove the slash and list the break as Christmas; the motion was seconded and passed on roll call.
Board members stressed they will continue outreach and noted some members had proposed producing both versions of the calendar (one labeled “Christmas,” one labeled “winter”) for distribution to different audiences at a previous study session. Several members asked that the district continue to emphasize inclusivity in holiday programming at schools while noting that “Christmas” remained the historical and state‑level designation for the December holiday.
The full calendar, as amended, was adopted that night.
