The Land Use and Planning Committee approved a resolution to provide municipal planning services to the Town of Madison. Staff said the work would include a minor update to the town’s comprehensive plan, development of an outdoor recreation plan similar to the county’s park-and-recreation planning efforts, and a master plan for a town park.
County staff clarified the shared services cover planning and long‑range work only; they do not replace a town zoning administrator or county enforcement functions. The planning work is intended to help municipalities that do not have full-time planners, providing technical and long-range planning assistance such as plan updates, park master planning and zoning-code amendment support when requested.
A committee member asked whether the county would take over enforcement or zoning-administration duties; staff replied the shared services are strictly planning support and not enforcement. The committee voted by voice; the chair called for ayes and recorded the resolution as approved.
Ending: Staff said work would begin in the coming months and that the county and Town of Madison will coordinate scope and scheduling.
