Summary

Susan Brown told the Florence City Council she has pressed city officials for an entrance ramp at the Barnes Street Activity Center for at least two years and asked the council to construct a ramp that would lead directly from the front doors to the handicapped parking.
"I strongly urge you to construct a ramp that extends directly from the front door of the center to the handicapped parking spaces," Brown said, describing seniors who use walkers and canes and who find the current curb and route unsafe.
Council members asked staff for clarification about whether the existing ramp and building meet ADA standards and whether a new ramp could be placed closer to the entrance. Councilman Zach McKay said he visited the site and agreed the existing route is tight and could be difficult for some wheelchair users to navigate. The mayor and city manager asked staff to consult with Councilman McKay and return to council with options and feasibility findings.
No formal vote was taken; council directed staff to inspect the site, consult with Councilman McKay and report back to a future meeting.
