Ohio House adopts resolution recognizing Republic of Cyprus sovereignty over entire island

Columbus — The Ohio House adopted House Resolution 13 on Tuesday, a chamber resolution that recognizes the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the entire island and memorializes the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of northern Cyprus. The chamber approved the resolution 91–2.
Representative Demetrio, who sponsored the resolution, described Cyprus as a strategically important Mediterranean nation and urged members to show support. "As a proud Cypriot American, I ask that you stand with me to vote yes on House Resolution 13," Demetrio said on the floor.
Representative Santucci and Representative Brent spoke in support, citing ties between Ohio communities and Cypriot Americans and urging passage. Brent, the ranking member during committee consideration, said she voted yes in committee and expressed hope the chamber focuses on state business even while taking up a foreign-affairs–adjacent resolution.
The clerk reported 91 affirmative votes and 2 negative votes; the resolution was adopted and will be transmitted as directed.
