Columbus — The Ohio House adopted a resolution memorializing former Representative Ronald Edward Hood during Tuesday's session, and several members delivered personal recollections and tributes on the floor.
The clerk read House Resolution 118 in full, detailing Hood's decades of service, committee work and leadership roles. "Ron Hood's passion for community service was always evident in his own approach to public life," the resolution text said as read aloud.
Multiple members offered floor remarks describing Hood as a mentor, conservative leader and a person of faith. Representative Dean said Hood was a mentor whose counsel helped shape his political career. "His influence — it's fair to say I wouldn't be here today," Dean said.
Representative Stewart recalled working with Hood for eight years and said Hood "stood for what he believed" and persevered in pursuing policy priorities. Representative Veil, who described himself as Hood's first aide in the House, recounted Hood's role advancing conservative priorities and wider bipartisan collaboration on some policies.
Representative Glassburn and others detailed legislation Hood supported or helped advance over the years, citing his involvement with bills on issues including constitutional-carry, stand-your-ground, and other measures. Several members said Hood's hallmark was persistence and principled advocacy.
Following remarks, members voted by rising and observed a moment of silence; the clerk announced the resolution was adopted.
