Members favored moving procedural forms out of the policy (so they can be updated administratively) and instead to reference where parents should locate the permission document (for example, Aspen or other district forms). One suggested edit was to replace a checkbox on the permission form with a signed statement ("by signing this form") to reduce confusion; staff agreed to update the form language if the form is kept or to move it out of the policy.
Other changes requested included adding the correct state regulation citation where the policy references state law and clarifying that parental/guardian permission applies (and whether the policy covers kindergarten through grade 5 as required by statute). The committee instructed staff to remove the form from the policy text, insert the cited regulation, change references to "parent and guardian," and add a clause noting sunscreen is best applied at home.
A motion to move the sun‑safety policy forward with the modifications discussed was seconded and approved by voice vote.
