Committee asks superintendent to convene Greystone and Centerville naming committees for new elementary school

At the April 23 meeting the School Committee asked the superintendent to form committees composed of equal representation from Greystone and Centerville constituencies to consider renaming Greystone Elementary School once two new schools are complete.
The chair said he wanted the communities to be honored if renaming was of interest and asked the superintendent to assemble “formidable committees” with equal representation from administration, teachers, school-improvement teams, parents, PTO members and other constituencies the superintendent deems appropriate. The chair said he would not set a firm timeline but asked that the superintendent bring one or two recommendations forward when the district has a clearer completion date for the new elementary school.
The request was made as a committee direction rather than a formal, time-bound motion; no member objected during the discussion. The committee did not take a recorded vote on the item. The superintendent was asked to report back with recommendations when timing is clearer.
