The Imperial County Board of Supervisors on April 22 approved travel for three workforce board members and three workforce and economic development staff to attend the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals conference in Virginia Beach.
Priscilla Lopez, director for workforce and economic development, said the trip focuses on professional development and program ideas rather than legislative advocacy. She told the board the department budgets about $100,000 across funding buckets for board member and staff out‑of‑state travel and that the conference line items are not general fund expenditures.
Supervisors discussed travel costs and urged departments to exercise judgment when taking delegations to out‑of‑state conferences. Supervisor Peggy Price suggested inviting training opportunities to the county so that more local staff and community partners could benefit if the department can host sessions locally in the future.
Supervisor Ryan Kelly moved approval and Supervisor Jesus Escobar seconded; the motion carried.
