During the open forum portion of the April 21 Rockwall City Council meeting, resident Carrie Moore of Ridgecrest Place asked the council to consider safety improvements along Ridge Road West.
Moore said neighbors have collected signatures asking for traffic‑calming measures and improvements because the street receives significant pedestrian activity including children walking to school, strollers and cyclists. She outlined several requests: restoring or installing marked pedestrian crosswalks at high‑use locations, installing additional “Children at Play” signage, and reducing the posted speed limit by 5–10 mph to improve safety and driver awareness. Moore also suggested rumble strips as a tested, relatively low‑cost measure to slow vehicles.
Councilmember Cedric Thomas (addressing the resident on the dais) and staff indicated they would explain the city’s process for evaluating traffic signs and speed‑limit changes and discuss options with the resident and engineering staff. No formal council action was taken during the meeting; the matter was referred for staff review and potential traffic engineering analysis.
