Glocester’s village plan earns two statewide awards, officials say

Town planning staff told the council that a multi-year village implementation plan has received two statewide awards recognizing plan implementation and smart-growth achievements.
The planning director said the plan, which began in December 2020 as a five-year vision for the village, won an American Planning Association statewide award for best plan implementation. The director invited councilors to the APA ceremony on April 24 at Governor Notte Park in North Providence. Staff also said GrowSmart Rhode Island selected the plan for an outstanding smart-growth award; that ceremony is scheduled for May 8 at the Providence Public Library in Pawtucket.
Officials said the awards reflect multi-department collaboration and cited contributions from public works, boards and commissions, and the Economic Development Commission. Staff noted GrowSmart requested photos and produced a video presentation documenting before-and-after changes and suggested the town could present that material to the council after the ceremonies.
Councilors congratulated staff and noted that securing funding and coordinating multiple agencies were important to successful implementation. No action or appropriation was taken; the item was an informational report.
