Police Commander Anderson presented the city's annual report required under Assembly Bill 481, summarizing the department's military-equipment inventory, training and costs and reporting on any complaints or deployments.
Commander Anderson said the department currently maintains two 40-millimeter projectile launchers, five less-lethal shotguns and 27 rifles (11 of which are currently issued). In 2024 the department purchased five additional rifles at a cost of $7,767, and staff said the purchases were intended to update equipment, improve training uniformity and provide replacements for malfunctioning gear. The department participates in the Monterey Peninsula Special Response Unit (SRU); Commander Anderson said Pacific Grove does not own SRU equipment, SRU did not respond to any incidents in Pacific Grove in 2024, and one department officer is assigned to SRU.
The council received the AB 481 report and a council member moved to accept the report; the council approved receipt of the annual report during the meeting. No policy change or additional purchases were authorized that night.
Ending: The council accepted the AB 481 report and thanked the department for the presentation; staff will continue to report annually as required by state law.
