Board recognizes student artists, HOSA and other student winners; PVEA honors teacher

The governing board opened the meeting with awards and recognitions.
Maureen Minnick, director of fine arts, introduced the district’s permanent art-collection presentation. The district purchases roughly a dozen student artworks each year from its annual showcase; those works will be professionally framed and displayed in the boardroom for three years before rotating across campus.
Several student winners and groups were recognized: HOSA (Future Health Professionals) winners from Paradise Valley High School, a student who won two first-place awards in digital photography at the FBLA State Leadership Conference, and multiple winners selected for the permanent art collection (students from Quill Run, Mercury Mind, Boulder Creek, Desert Trails, Shea Middle School, Sunrise Middle School, Desert Shadows Middle School, Mountain Trail Middle School, North Canyon High School, Pinnacle High School, Shadow Mountain High School, and Horizon High School).
Heather Schmidt, president of the Paradise Valley Education Association, introduced the PVEA Professional Recognition (PROPS) winner for April 2025: Mariah Nolasaya, a kindergarten teacher at Echo Mountain Primary, nominated for demonstrated leadership, classroom engagement and community involvement.
The board and superintendent acknowledged parents, teachers and arts staff present at the meeting. No action was required; recognitions were ceremonial.
