Approved personnel and employment items - Stacy Alejo — approved as assistant principal at Greenway Middle School. Background provided: behavioral specialist at Greenway Middle School; bachelor’s degree from ASU; master’s from NAU. Motion passed by voice vote. - Dr. Jeffrey Fensel — approved as assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School. Background provided: interim assistant principal at Greenway, bachelor’s degree in journalism, master’s in secondary education, PhD in educational leadership. Motion passed by voice vote. - Ernesto Mesa — approved as interim director of transportation. Background provided: 41 years of experience in maintenance and transportation across several Arizona districts; past president of the Arizona Association of School Business Officials. Motion passed unanimously.
Approved contracts and templates - Changes/additions to bargaining agreements for multiple employee groups (see separate article) — approved by roll-call. - Changes/additions to contract templates for continuing/probationary certified teachers, ESP, ESS, ESP exempt, principals and administration for 2025-26 — approved by roll-call. - 2025-26 Performance Based Pay (PBP) plan for certificated staff — approved.
Other approvals - Resolution No. 573 (property lease agreement with Austin Centers for Exceptional Students, ACES) — approved (see separate article for details). - Delegation to the superintendent to execute assurances and certifications to the Arizona Department of Education and U.S. Department of Education pertaining to Title VI and FERPA — approved (see separate article). - Acceptance of gifts and donations — The board accepted a number of donations including: Desert Shadows Elementary PTA items totaling just over $6,400 (robotics/STEAM equipment and MakerBot classroom bundles), Echo Mountain Intermediate Dorito Partners $1,000 for student rewards, and Pinnacle Peak Preparatory School PTO $15,581.09 for a multipurpose-room AV system.
Procedural items - The agenda and recommended consent agenda items were adopted at the start of the meeting without removal of any consent items.
Why it matters: The approvals move forward administrative staffing, implement the district’s 2025-26 compensation and contract templates, add recurring lease revenue (see Resolution 573), preserve ability to access federal funds through required assurances, and accept in-kind and cash donations for school programs.
What’s next: Human Resources and Finance will implement hires and contract changes; district staff will integrate donations and report on use; the superintendent’s delegated execution of assurances will protect federal funding eligibility pending further legal guidance.
