Rio Hondo River access project nearing completion; LED sign installation pending electrical work

Montebello Parks and Recreation Department staff told the commission that phase 1 of the Rio Hondo River access improvement project — landscaping, a decomposed-granite walking trail, horse amenities and dual drinking fountains — is nearly complete and should finish within about a month.
"Phase 1 should be completed within a month," said David Vestager, director of parks and recreation. Vestager said the work already includes fresh mulch, a DG walking trail that connects to the sidewalk and other landscaping features visible in the project aerials shown to the commission.
The project is funded through the Los Angeles County Regional Parks District under the county's Measure A competitive allocation program; county staff favored the application because the improvements connect to the LA County riverbed network including horse, walking and bike trails, Vestager said. Phase 2 covers electrical work to connect an LED sign; that stage depends on final electrical designs from Southern California Edison before the city will put out public-works bids.
Public-works staff are leading the electrical design and procurement schedule, Vestager said; he invited questions but none were raised at the meeting. No formal action or vote on the project was taken by the commission at this meeting.
