Rules Committee recommends Charlie Lavery to Transbay Joint Powers Authority with residency waiver

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on April __ recommended Charlie Lavery’s appointment to the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) to the full Board and approved a waiver of the TJPA residency requirement.
Lavery, who represents the International Union of Operating Engineers and said he has long ties to the Transbay project, told the committee he would bring labor and construction expertise and experience negotiating project agreements. “I was present when then governor Schwarzenegger launched the demolition of the old terminal, and I helped negotiate the original PLA for phase 1 of the transit center,” Lavery said.
Supervisor Mandelmann and other committee members praised Lavery’s record of infrastructure advocacy and ballot measure work. The committee moved the item forward with a residency waiver; the clerk recorded ayes from Vice Chair Sheryl, Member Mandelmann and Chair Walton. The motion passed without objection.
No public commenters spoke on the item. The committee’s recommendation will be placed on the Board of Supervisors agenda for final action.
