Board approves several procurement contracts, including generator, mowing and equipment testing

The Board of Carroll County Commissioners approved multiple procurement items on May 1, voting to award contracts and purchases the board’s procurement office recommended.

Awards and approvals recorded in the meeting minutes included: - A one-year contract (with one optional renewal) with Quality Outdoor Maintenance for mowing and tree-shelter maintenance not to exceed $71,200 (yearly total $35,600). The work supports the county’s NPDES program and covers about 53 acres of tree plantings. - Purchase of traffic signs and barricades from Sunrise Safety Services, Inc., in the amount of $29,369. County staff said the purchase provided semi-permanent detour signage after the emergency closure of Upper Beckleyville Road and the signs were expected to be installed by the end of the day. - Purchase and installation of a 37-kilowatt Kohler diesel generator and transfer switch for the Harvey Gummel communications tower from Fidelity Power Systems in a turnkey contract of $89,965.61; the procurement uses a Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract. - Contract award for annual fire department equipment testing to IIA Fire Department Testing in the amount of $85,423. County staff said NFPA standards require hose, pump and ladder testing at all 14 volunteer fire companies and centralization of records improves consistency and may reduce costs.

Each item was moved and approved by voice vote during the meeting. Meeting minutes show the procurement office and bureau staff described scope, justification and budget availability for each expenditure.
