The Hillsboro R-III Foundation presented an annual update to the board covering fundraising, scholarships, grants and upcoming alumni events.
A foundation speaker said the group raised more than $15,000 in the past year and awarded $3,000 in scholarships to the graduating class. The foundation reported receiving $30,000 from the Jefferson Foundation with $10,000 proposed for a backpack program and $20,000 toward a playground at the intermediate school. The foundation also described a $500 grant from FCS Financial for fire pits at the farm and a $30,000 grant from an innovative technology education fund that paid for new computers in one high-school business lab.
The presenter said the foundation is working on multiple projects, including a homecoming golf tournament, an alumni tailgate and planning a gala around the nation’s 250th anniversary. The foundation also discussed an incoming potential donation to establish the John Schuster Memorial scholarship after a donor matched funds from a closed political committee account; the foundation said it will work with the donor and the family to finalize details.
Board members thanked foundation leadership and noted the value of alumni and community support for district programs.
