Residents report worsening stormwater and maintenance issues at Anna parks; staff to log repairs and propose upgrades

Andrew Macrina told the Parks Advisory Board on April 20 that stormwater flowing from Arden Park into Natural Springs Park has worsened and is causing muddy, flooded trails and a public-nuisance condition.

"Where the trail goes up behind Arden Park ... half of it was completely mud. The other half was underwater," Macrina said, adding that the runoff was "causing a public nuisance." He also reported that a recent survey at Slater Creek Park and changes at Shirley Heritage Park had raised concerns, and he asked whether horseshoe pits removed from Shirley would be rebuilt.

Jeff Reese, assistant director of neighborhood services, said the parks report and CIP project update were distributed as memos and that the city currently does not have funding in the CIP for physical improvements to Shirley Heritage Park restrooms. "We will propose those in future budgets," he said, and noted that maintenance items (missing carriage bolts on playground equipment, bird problems in the station house) would be inspected and addressed by staff.

Board members raised that a survey at Slater Creek Park indicates planned projects there, and staff said they would work with contractors and finalize plans. Reese also said staff are coordinating site plans and vendor details for upcoming special events, but that precise actions on road closures and event logistics are being finalized separately.

The board did not adopt new policy or allocate funds at the meeting; staff said identified maintenance items would be logged for inspection and that renovation requests would be proposed in upcoming budget cycles.
