Cerritos Parks and Recreation Commission elects Prado chair; approves minutes and receives youth basketball report

The Cerritos Parks and Recreation Commission reorganized at its May 1 meeting, electing Commissioner Prado as chair and nominating Commissioner Pat Patnaik as vice chair; commissioners also approved the minutes from the previous meeting and voted to receive and file the 2025 Youth Basketball League evaluation.

The reorganization began when the commission declared the chair and vice chair positions vacant and opened nominations. A commissioner nominated Vice Chair Prado for chair; others seconded the nomination. Commissioners responded “aye,” and the motion carried. Commissioners then nominated Pat Patnaik for vice chair in his absence; that nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote.

The commission approved the minutes from the previous meeting by motion and voice vote. Later in the agenda, Recreation Services Administrator Joel Toda presented an evaluation of the 2025 Youth Basketball League, after which a commissioner moved to “receive and file” the report; the commission voted to approve that motion.
