Brandon, county engineer, said Tech Center Drive is a county road with no current addresses assigned, which simplified some logistics; he and staff narrowed possible replacement names to four: Murdoch Peak, "Gold Medal Way" (noted in the record as Gold Bridal/Gold Medal), Nordic Drive and Big Moose Road. Brandon noted the road is platted and that, if the council chooses to change the name, staff will also need to amend plats and potentially other documents tied to Dakota Pacific paperwork.
Council members discussed methods for soliciting public comment. Several members favored using the county’s communications and survey tool to gather public preferences rather than making a unilateral council choice. One councilor said they preferred "Nordic Drive" with "Gold Medal Way" as a second choice. Staff recommended tabling the decision while it coordinates a public-engagement process and clarifying the administrative steps needed to change the name on plats and in county records.
The council did not take final action; staff will work with communications to run a public survey on candidate names and return with a recommendation and any required plat amendments or documentation.
