The board then considered a $2,000 grant request from the Pryor Area Arts and Humanities Council to host Missoula Children’s Theatre from June 9–23, 2025. A board member described the program as a recurring, multi‑day event that brings college students to work with local children and generates some hotel stays. After brief discussion the board voted to approve the $2,000 grant; the roll call recorded Hawkins, Allen, Majors, Williams and Dickinson voting yes.
Later the board considered a $5,000 grant request from the Mayes County Historical Society to build a museum website to promote historical tourism. A representative of the society described recent visitor counts and noted outreach to out‑of‑state visitors, saying the site would “have pictures and tell the story of Mayes County” and provide an online place for donations and event information. The applicant said the museum received proposal quotes, including one from Brooks Digital, and described volunteer efforts and recent local grants used for museum repairs and maintenance.
Lisa Miller, superintendent of Pryor Public Schools, addressed the board during the discussion about the board’s overall budget (not the museum grant). Miller explained that by state law the district cannot use its general fund to pay for food or clothing and that hotel‑motel funds historically deposited to the district’s activity funds support athletics and district‑level student programs. “By state law, we cannot use what’s called our general fund,” Miller said. She described how the board‑allocated funds are split “80% to athletics and 20% to district level and student support” and noted the athletic tournaments bring multi‑day visitors who spend in town.
After discussion the board approved the $5,000 website grant by roll call: Majors, Williams, Dickinson, Hawkins and Allen voted yes.
