Commissioners direct staff to rebid Veil HVAC project after single bid

County finance staff told the Franklin County Board of Commissioners that only a single bid had been received for the Veil HVAC project. Commissioners expressed concern about lack of competition and voted to table consideration of that bid and direct staff to rebid the project.
A representative from the controller’s office said the county’s bidding documents include a contingency that allows the board to reject bids and start over. "You have the ability to, reject the bids and, start over," the controller’s office representative said.
One commissioner said he had previously expressed displeasure about receiving only one bid on large county expenses and recommended tabling the item to obtain more competitive bids; the motion to direct staff to rebid carried by voice vote.
