NAACP leader urges Davidson County commissioners to do more for Lexington school facilities

Reverend Alan Suber, president of the local NAACP chapter, used the public-comment period at the April 28 Davidson County commission meeting to press the board to increase attention and support for Lexington-area school facilities and programs.
"Our children deserve the best no matter where they come from," Suber said. He described students who "worry about whether the roofs will cave in" and restrooms that do not always work, and said teachers are sometimes unable to provide classes needed to prepare students for a competitive workforce.
Suber said county funding provided so far has been appreciated but urged commissioners to "do more" for students, families, teachers and administrators in the Lexington school system. He said a previous suggestion by a commissioner to meet with the county manager had not changed his view that the commissioners themselves are the appropriate officials to address the concerns.
Suber spoke in his capacity as a community representative; he referred in the same remarks to both "Lehi City Schools" and "Lexington City Schools." The transcript records both names and does not provide additional clarification on whether he meant a single district or two distinct districts. Commissioners did not take action on the comments during the meeting.
