Mayor Jerome Rice and the Spartanburg City Council on April 28 proclaimed April 2025 as Second Chance Month and recognized local reentry services led by Angel's Charge Ministries.
The proclamation notes that millions of Americans with criminal records face barriers to employment, housing, education and civic participation, and it highlighted Angel's Charge as a local faith-based program providing transitional housing and support services for women.
Suzanne White, chair of Angel's Charge Ministries and a public defender with the Seventh Judicial Circuit, told council the organization helps women confront housing, financial and stigma-related barriers. "We are grateful for everybody's support," White said, and she invited council and residents to a reentry simulation scheduled for May 16 intended to help community members understand reentry challenges.
Mayor Rice read the proclamation declaring the month and thanked Angel's Charge and local partners for their work promoting successful reentry.
Ending Angel's Charge said it will hold a public reentry simulation on May 16; residents interested in attending should contact the organization for details.
