Chandler council highlights upcoming community events, memorial for Pastor Victor Hardy

Mayor Hartke said a community celebration for the late Pastor Victor Hardy will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Compass Christian Church. The mayor described Hardy as a longtime volunteer at local schools and an attendee at council meetings.
Council member Orlando described the “Freedom Hope Future” event scheduled for the City Hall Courtyard this Saturday to honor Vietnam veterans and celebrate Vietnamese culture. Orlando said the event will include performances, cuisine, crafts and activities for all ages and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon. He also described a military recognition ceremony next Wednesday honoring more than 100 enlistees who chose to serve after high school.
Council member Harris and others promoted the Movies in the Park series at Tumbleweed Park, beginning May 2 with pre-show activities at 6:30 p.m. and a movie start time of 8 p.m.; the series continues May 9 and May 16. Harris also announced the Golden Neighbors program will mark its fourth year with a birthday celebration on Thursday, May 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the City Hall Courtyard.
Council encouraged residents to attend the events and thanked staff and community partners for organizing them.
