Commission approves cell-phone allowance, employee financial-wellness benefit and three staff for leadership program

Joe (HR director) asked the commission to approve a cell-phone reimbursement for a sheriff’s deputy; the commission approved the allowance by voice vote.
Jamie Coffey (staff member), filling in for Finance, presented a Commerce-provided financial-wellness program offered at no cost to the county or employees. Coffey said the program provides employees with budgeting and retirement-planning tools and that the county would place a link on its employee portal. Commissioners gave staff permission to proceed.
Coffey also requested approval to send three county employees to the Flint Hills Regional Leadership Program Sept. 4–5. The county provides a $300 scholarship per attendee toward the $600 tuition per person; Coffey said departmental budgets would cover remaining costs. The commission approved the three participants (a county health or public-safety lieutenant, a CBD staff member and Coffey).
Jamie also notified the commission of planned under-$2,500 furniture purchases from central services for a county office and said Public Works is assessing a door reversal in one office to improve layout; commissioners treated both as informational updates with no additional funding requested.
Commissioners asked staff to standardize notifications for department head time-off notices so the commission receives weekly updates of authorized absences.
