The Agoura Hills City Council proclaimed April 25, 2025, as Arbor Day and announced tree-planting activities and related community events during its regular meeting.
Mayor Pro Tem Jeremy Wolf read the Arbor Day proclamation and noted that the National Arbor Day Foundation recognized Agoura Hills as a Tree City USA designee for a second consecutive year. Charmaine Yambo, director of public works, accepted the proclamation on behalf of Public Works and Community Services and said the city will plant oak trees at Old Agoura Park on April 25 and add oaks to medians along Canaan Road during the same week.
Yambo summarized the city’s rationale for tree-planting, saying trees reduce soil erosion, lower heating and cooling costs, clean the air and provide habitat. She also said the city is committed to preserving the urban forest and that plantings will use native, climate-appropriate species.
Separately during public comment, volunteer coordinator Ben Sueber reminded residents that Community Service Days are scheduled for May 3 with projects including plantings at Forest Cove and Morrison Park and cleanup at Chumash Park; volunteers can register on the city’s website. Staff also announced Public Safety Day on May 10 at Station 89 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a free community event with emergency services demonstrations.
Yambo and staff thanked contractors BrightView and West Coast and city landscape crews for recent park and tree maintenance. No formal council vote was required to present the proclamation; staff described the planting schedule, maintenance requirements and volunteer sign-ups and asked residents to participate.
The council encouraged residents to take part in Arbor Day and upcoming community events; those interested were directed to the city’s website for registration and details.
