The Hooksett Town Council approved the Department of Public Works’ purchase of a 2025 Ford F-350 XL pickup and related radio equipment on April 23, waiving the usual three-bid requirement after the department sought three quotes and received two responsive proposals.
Public Works Director Ben Bertham told the council the purchase is on the department’s capital plan and the current vehicle needed replacement after a blown turbo. Councilor Walczek moved the purchase; the motion included funding the truck for $56,291 and a radio purchase and installation (the staff report lists the radio at $1,440). The council approved the purchase and the waiver so the department could proceed; the truck will be outfitted, include a lift gate and the old truck will be traded in.
Bertham said the department obtained two dealer quotes and a third dealership declined to provide pricing; the vehicle will be funded from the DPW Vehicles Capital Reserve. The council discussed lead time; Bertham said outfitting will add time but the dealer estimated a relatively short delivery window.
The motion passed by roll call. Councilors asked staff to confirm final outfitting and delivery dates and to report back on the trade-in value and timing of the new vehicle.
