Peachtree Corners — During the public-comment period, resident William Monet told the council he opposes new apartment development in the city and urged elected officials to use the city’s resources to challenge developers in court rather than approving additional multi‑family housing.
“Why do we have the city of Peachtree Corners? When it first came out that we want to have a city, it was to control trash removal, but it was also more important to control our zoning,” said William Monet, who gave his address as 4373 Wickershire Way. Monet said he has lived in the city “since its inception” and that he fears judges will require the city to allow Section 8 housing on major corridors, which he said would bring crime and require the creation of a municipal police force.
Monet criticized recent multifamily developments and described a nearby senior development, Waterside, as oriented toward narrow, tall townhouses that he said do not appear senior-friendly. He urged the council to resist approving projects without more court challenges to developers: “The process is the punishment,” he said, arguing lengthy appeals can make developers “give up.”
Council members did not engage in extended discussion on the comment; the mayor thanked Monet and proceeded with the agenda.
