McKinney planning commission tables rezoning request after public-notice error

The City of McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission on April 22, 2025 closed the public hearing and unanimously voted to table indefinitely a rezoning request (case 250031Z) that would have changed a parcel from Planned Development to allow industrial uses.

Staff planner Araceli told the commission that staff recommended closing the public hearing and tabling the item “indefinitely due to a public noticing error.” No members of the public came forward to speak before the commission moved to table the item.

Why it matters: rezoning to allow industrial uses can change how a property may be developed and can affect nearby land uses and neighborhoods. Accurate legal notice is required under state and local rules before the city may take final action on zoning changes.

The motion to close the public hearing and table the item was made by Commissioner Hammock and seconded by Commissioner Craig; the motion passed by a vote of 7 to 0. Staff said they will re-notice the item prior to a future meeting so the commission and any interested parties can consider the request with correct public notice.

Araceli told the commission staff would re-notice the item before it returns for consideration; no timetable was specified at the meeting. The commission did not take any policy action on the zoning request while it was tabled.

The tabling ends the matter for this meeting but preserves the item for future consideration once notice is corrected. The commission moved on to other agenda items after the unanimous vote.
