Dr. Davidson told the board the action is “to make certain that we follow the law” and to preserve funding that supports district schools and students.
The vote followed brief discussion in which board member Miss Moran addressed recent public misinformation about district practice and policy. “We do not now, nor have we ever used a policy or program to advantage one's race over another in this district,” Moran said, and added the district treats community members “with dignity and respect” across protected categories. Board members also reiterated that the district follows its nondiscrimination policy, identified in district materials as policy AC.
Motion and vote details: Mr. Mikes made the motion to ratify the superintendent’s execution of the requested certifications and assurances; Miss Moran seconded. The board chair and both voting members present cast “yea,” and the motion passed.
Why it matters: Ratifying these assurances preserves the district’s eligibility for federal grant funds that support programs and operations. Superintendent Davidson said the ratification ensures the district remains in compliance with federal and state legal requirements and district policy.
